Is It Possible??

A young man I went to college with once told me that he had an awesome dream that one day, not too far into the future, a group of people were going to sit down and come up with a way to bring about world peace.  He said that in his dream that intellectual people from all over the world met at some big conference and were sitting around a large circular table and for days debated on how to bring about true world peace.  As with most dreams that we have, he couldn't recall what the solution was nor any of the various arguments that had been made - only that he remembered that in the last part of his dream news media from all over the world were spreading the news of their success.  I'll never forget how about 10 of my friends sat for hours discussing rather or not that could ever be possible.... or if it is nothing more than a pipe dream.

So, this week, you're going to dive into the conversation and see what you, the future of this planet believe and think about the possibility of "true world peace."  Before you develop your answer, you do have to consider a few key things.  One, you'd have to be able to identify what are the main things that divide the people around the earth (i.e., politics, religion, economics, etc.) and secondly, what issues, if any, could we develop effective compromises on that would allow us to come together.  Trust me, it's not an easy topic nor would it be an easy task - but if history has taught us anything, it has taught us that doing nothing, ALWAYS results in nothing and if people want to do something bad enough, humankind normally finds a way (both for good and bad).

THIS WEEK'S BLOG TOPIC IS:
Is world peace truly obtainable?  Why or why not?  What issues will keep us from obtaining a workable compromise?  What issues could possibly bring us together?  Or is obtaining true world peace, simply a dream?

  1. World peace, in my perspective, cannot be achieved. I think that no matter how hard we try to obtain it, we can’t gain world peace. Nothing can be perfect. We can’t purify the world’s population 100% so that each person has no conflict with anyone else. There are a few factors that keep us from obtaining peace. One of the factors would be politics for sure. We need people to lead countries around the world and politics, like it has for hundreds of centuries, arouses conflicts. People will always disagree with one another at some time, maybe even to the point of war and violence. In addition, religion also has a major affect in the prevention of world peace. Racism, although not as severe as it has been in the past, definitely causes many issues around the world. For example, in the modern day, terrorism is automatically thought to be connected to Muslims. Religion causes worldwide problems such as the ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestine. Issues such as money, fame, and power will also play major roles in preventing world peace. All three of those factors create competition, status, and conflict, which doesn't allow everyone to be equal and have peace. Therefore, I believe that world peace is but a dream.

    1. Anshul I loved how you included that money, fame and power will play a major role. These factors can cause conflicts and will prevent us from our goal. However, we can still try! Great post!

    2. I agree with you on how world peace cannot be obtainable, and i used the same points about politics as you did. I do have one nit pick though. The conflict between palestine and Israel is not over religion it is actually over land, and who has the right to stay there. For the most part Israelis and Palestinians have similar religions. That area of the world is very diverse, religion wise, but that is not the MAIN problem between Israel and Palestine.

    3. I agree on the points you made about world peace being unobtainable. As you said we cannot purify the population 100% because everyone has different views and opinions in the world. This was a great point and it really stood out to me.

    4. Anshul, I felt that world peace can be obtainable. Although you had great facts to back up your opinion, I still feel that it is not just a dream. You stated how 100% of the population can not all purify. I thought that this is true, but it's a matter of persuasion and one person can lead to many others working together to obtain world peace. Religion can also be altered in a way that it can be beneficial to supporting world peace.

    5. Anshul I agree with what you are saying about peace, and I love the quote you said " We can’t purify the world’s population 100% so that each person has no conflict with anyone else." That sort of ties into my blog about all of the hatred in the world. Overall I liked the blog a lot.

    7. Hey Anshul, I like how you mentioned that race and religion play a part in the prevention of us achieving world peace. It was clever how you included those stereotypes. Good post.

  2. Hundreds of thousands of people dream of the world one day being at peace. I, however, do not think that a goal like this is even remotely obtainable. Unfortunately, there are many issues that are keeping us from achieving world peace. Some contributing factors that are keeping the world from being at peace include race, religion, wars, government issues, corruption, disputes and conflicts with other countries, etc. In my opinion, the fact that there are so many disputes between countries is the biggest reason why the world will never be at peace. There are almost always problems that go on in places all over the world, ultimately leading to wars and other serious conflicts. We would never be able to fully wipe out the disputes of the world. I, myself, love the idea of world peace. However, hundreds of countries around the world would have to be willing to make ends meet and settle their differences. Also (to further complicate matters), future conflicts would have to somehow be prevented or avoided in order to create such workable compromises.
So, to wrap things up, we are all human, and we are not perfect. There's simply no way we can eliminate people's problems and differences. Because of this, an idea as perfect and amazing as world peace is simply just a dream.

    2. I agree with your ideas on how world peace is unobtainable. I also liked how stated how future problems would have to be settled in advanced or ahead of time, which is impossible. World peace is a nice idea, but like you said people will never make ends meet.

    3. You brought up a great point that I honestly didn't think of. This point that you brought up was that we would not be able to resolve our future problems as we do not know what they are possibly going to be. Also, I agree that world peace is unobtainable and that the biggest problem we have conflicting with world peace is that there are many disputes between nations.

    4. I had posted about world peace truly being obtainable yet I found many good statements in your blog post. Some of the opinions as world peace being just a dream hadn't came to mind. Although you had a great argument, my opinion in world peace being attainable still stays intact. Think of Martin Luther King Jr. His dream had came true as a factor of world peace. We could motivate ourselves from the great examples of the past as well as many persuasions to fulfill world peace.

    6. I believe that your argument was spot on for every point. As you have stated, "...we are all human, and we are not perfect. There's simply no way we can eliminate people's problems and differences. There is no way we have a perfect society because of the fact that nobody is perfect and we don't know the exact solutions for many of the conflicts.'' World peace is simply not obtainable in the world now or thousands of years from now.

    7. Hey Paige I really liked your blog and you argued against making peace very well. I like how you incorporated the snow ball effect and how something can happen and it will effect other things pushing the possibility of peace away. If people would stop and think about letting peace in rather than pushing it away maybe we could achieve peace.

    8. I feel the only way for world peace.. if if a leading-nation decided to go for a "world-domination" attempt. Forcing the conversions of religions, and other beliefs. Possibly through torture, or execution. But, this would not be world peace if everyone doesn't agree on the inside. Possibly leading up to a rebellion... -TOM HINDLE

    9. Paige, I completely agree with you, world peace cannot be obtained! As I mentioned in my blog as well, there are way too many conflicts and contributing factors to the prevention of world peace. I like how you stated "...we are all human and we are not perfect" because it totally sums up the main reason why world peace is nearly impossible. There are just too many differences to ever resolve them all. Great post!

  3. I believe that we cannot achieve world peace. The countries around the world are way too different. There are religous, cultural, and many other aspects that would prevent us from achieving that goal. There is already many wars between countries that have been circulating for many years, such as Israel's and Palestine's war. Could we possibly ease the tension enough between these two countries to gain world peace?
Nothing but alliances against other countries could bring us together. World peace, in my honest opinion, cannot and will probably not be achieved.

    1. I do agree with you that world peace is not obtainable, but i do think a little more elaboration is needed in this to get your point across even more so than you already did. You also have to be more specific when you say "alliances." Alliances are usually for war purposes, but I was unclear what you meant by that, because if alliances are the only thing that could us together, well, that is pretty sad. hahahahaha!! (im saying that about the world)

    2. I like some of your points about the religious and cultural aspects but like Ian said you could've given more detail. Also, I didn't fully understand what you meant when you said "...alliances against other countries could bring us together." Lastly, you did contradict yourself on your last sentence because you said world peace CANNOT and WILL PROBABLY NOT be achieved which have two different meanings.
An additional footnote: Yes, Ian that is pretty sad. hahahaha! (I'm laughing with you, not at you.)

    3. I strongly agree with your point that world peace can't be attained because of factors like religion and culture. However, you are forgetting a whole chunk of idea that is vital to your argument. There is a lack of information on what you mean by the effect of religion and culture. When we think of world peace we have to think of a utopian society in which factors like religion and cultural diversity don't exist.

    4. Hi guys, by alliances, I meant for war purposes.
@Robert: My last sentence is my opinion on the future. Who knows, we could all be wrong and world peace may be achieved. However, we don't know what will occur. So in my opinion, I don't think world peace can be achieved and will MOST LIKELY not.

  4. At this point in time or even in the future, I believe that world peace is truly an intangible idea that will never happen. World peace is can only be real in movies, books, or comics where everything in the world is perfect and everyone gets along, but that is not the case. In our world today, people are so opinionated that they will shoot down any idea that does cohere with theirs. With that being said, nothing can get done. Take congress for example, no one can get anything done because everybody is too focused on maintaining their position rather than trying to cooperate. That is what is wrong with todays world...POWER. People are too interested in obtaining and maintaining it that they shut everyone out, including their ideas. It is because of this that world peace can only be obtained in fairy tales and what-if situations.

    1. You added that world peace can only be obtained in fairy tales, movies, and books and I agree with that, although I did fail to include that in my blog. Also, an example of world peace coming from books, comics, and movies can be the book entitled "The Giver". Although it is not fully world peace, it is very similar and there is one thing controlling all of the people in this world, and that is "It". Everyone in this world is perfect and exactly alike in their dress and acts and it amazed all of us who read the book because we never thought a "perfect world" would ever come about. Additionally, I like that you talked about power because too many people (and countries) are too greedy and selfish to think about such topics as world peace.

    2. You emphasized power as a reason why world peace is unobtainable. I completely agree with your statement and I also like how you added the example of Congress. If our own Congress cannot agree on certain issues within our country than how are other countries going to agree with each other. I greatly believe that people want more power and they do that by being opinionated.

    3. Hi Fox, I really liked your blog it was really detailed as to how peace cannot be achieved, even in smaller areas. People are so opinionated that whenever someone doesn't agree, everyone goes crazy. I also want to acknowledge what Rob said in the last comment about The Giver and how it was a perfect world, but at the same time it wasn't. Overall it was a very good blog with a lot of detail.

    4. Ian, I completely agree with you . Since there are so many weakness of human characters, world peace is only " an intangible ideal that will never happen. " I love your blog very much and you also let me wonder that if we live in a peace world (no conflicts, murders...)There won't be so many moving stories and we wouldn't notice a lot of greatest accomplishments of humanity.

    5. Ian, I really liked your post and I agree with you completely. I like how you stated how everyone is so opinionated that whoever goes against anyone else's opinions will create controversy and conflict. Also, one of your reasons, as I mentioned in my blog as well, is power. Power is something that can definitely prevent world peace because, like you said, everyone wants power and position, and no one is willing to cooperate to give up their individual power. Great job!

  5. World peace is in no way ever going to take place. In society today, way too many people are racist, to easy to judge, etc., and the chain will continue and nothing will stop them. There has been a religious war for thousands of years, and it doesn't look like it is going to come to a close...ever. The world simply cannot be perfect and never will be, people of the world are just too idiotic when it comes to common sense, respect, and morality. In my view, the world just keeps plummeting in many aspects including sensibility, health (environmental and general health), peace, and general knowledge. There are a substantial amount of differences that set us all apart from each other and cause wars and many other conflicts. God help us achieve world peace by some miraculous event.

  6. World peace is an amazing fantasy that we wish would happen, but it never will. Our world is filled with disputes, arguments and differences. Issues such as race, religion and politics will always start conflicts in between different countries. Some people in the world are immoral and lack judgement. People always judge each other just because of their race or religion, which is why there have been wars due to these issues. The world will always dispute over politics because of different views and power. Every country wants to be powerful and gain status in the world, but each country has different political views. There are too many conflicts in our world and we as a world cannot agree on everything. World peace is only in movies, books, and fantasies, but in reality it is just a dream.

    1. Akshay, I completely agree with you on your points and must say your argument is very genuine and you have very good details and examples to support it. World peace would be nice to have but can not occur due to human nature and corruption. Many subjects also effect this such as political and ethical variables. Good Job

    2. Hey Akshay, I have to say that I disagree with your opinion. Though world peace could take centuries to achieve, this does not mean it is completely implausible to achieve. Imagine how impossible human flight would've seemed during the time the Wright brothers developed the first plane. The same reasoning applies with world peace. Humankind has achieved "the impossible" every century or so. The same could happen with World Peace.

  7. I believe that world peace is, truly obtainable. This is because I define world peace as not having to think about the world (and its respective nations) as a ticking time bomb that could go off any minute. I have to say that the biggest issue that will keep us from obtaining a workable compromise would religion. Some might argue that other issues/beliefs such as government ideology, economics, and oil would keep us separated. However, religion has been around since before the birth of Jesus Christ. Besides, the other issues aren't as controversial as religion. It dictates why we are here and in a sense, explains our purpose. That poses many diverse points that could be argued extensively back and forth endlessly. However at the same time, religion gives us something to find solace in, therefore making it something that could unite us as well. In a way, religion can be compared to a balance scale because like a scale, religion can both unite and divide. In order to reach a point of equilibrium on this matter, we would have to come to the consensus that all religions are connected in one way or another and it is up to us to find that connection. If there is absolutely no connection whatsoever (which I highly doubt), then it is up to us to respect one another's belief and simply agree, to disagree.

    1. Great point on religion. However religion isn't the only factor in achieving world peace. What about politics, doesn't that play a big role in why many countries wage wars and start disputes over?

      Delete
    2. Sai, I similarly posted my blog as world peace being obtainable. I really liked the depth in detail of why religion isn't a problem in attaining a workable compromise like most opposed to. Religion can truly avert in being a pro of world peace. Your definition of world peace and the addition of wording that the world conflicts should not have to be thought about as an alliteration a "tickling time bomb that could go off any minute" was fantastic. Overall, I agree with where your viewpoint comes from.

    3. Although your statements support world peace being obtainable and are valid, as Akshay said religion isn't the only factor that will have an affect on world peace. Although it is a major point to include, you are missing the rest of the spectrum or idea. Radicals will always have an affect on how a certain country is viewed and how they act. The concept of cultural diversity and religion are intertwined because they both greatly influence a country's opinion. The only way to achieve world peace is to establish a utopia, but I am afraid that is not possible.

      Delete
    4. Sai, you present a valid case for your argument but i must side with Nader and Akshay and say that many other problems besides religion play key roles in the separation of the population. The situation is much more complex that we can possibly comprehend, so to wrap it up I'm sorry to say that you have no leg to stand on.

      Delete
    5. I definitely have to agree with Akshay, Nader and David on this one. Sai, your post is focused entirely on religion being an obstacle for world peace. There are countless points that stand in the way of creating world peace in our world. Do you believe that people would give up their own religious beliefs and unite as a world? If world peace is realistic and can happen as you stated, shouldn't we be taking action as of right now for that to occur? There is no sign of world peace beginning to take place whatsoever.

      Delete
    6. Wow Sai, I have to say that you are very thoughtful! And, yes, I agree with you very much. Religion can be one of the main problems that cause to the world conflicts. Since this is a big world, everyone can feel there will be a culture shock if they left their home and go to different places. Sometimes, cultural or religious differences can't be taken kindly by people. People have different beliefs, and some of them react so strongly to the differences between religions and are too eagerly to let others agree with their beliefs. In general, I really like your opinion on the religion.

      Delete
  8. In my belief, I feel that world peace CAN truly be attainable. Unlike the common opinion on this blog, I feel that putting aside the greed in craving power and differences in religion, the world can have the potential to come together to formulate peace. Progress cannot occur without movement in dropping selfish motives. It is accurate that people can change for the better in the world. Persuasion and inducement in all the great possibilities that could arise from world peace can stand as a motivation to come together to create it. Issues that could keep us from obtaining a workable compromise is betrayal, lack of cooperation or liaison, and differences in convictions. Although these are factors that could prevent our congregate, we could come together as a populace to avert them for the popular dream of world peace. There are numerous ways in subduing to bring us together. Some of these factors consist of individual tranquility, good neighbor relations, minimal threat rate, etc. Even though race/religion was a problem in restraining us from world peace, it can be altered to assist us rather than avoid. An example that world peace is not simply just a reverie is Martin Luther King Jr. He had a dream that racism in the world towards blacks and whites could come to an end. Where would we be today if that dream hadn't come to reality? This is only a minimal feature to the broad topic of world peace being reachable.

    1. you stated "Progress cannot occur without movement in dropping selfish motives". This statement in my opinion is invalid. Say we all stop being selfish......without this selfishness there would be no competitiveness. In turn without competitiveness there would be not movement or success. In order for a nation to prosper, we must face our obstacles and conflict and then take the initiative to overcome them. THIS IS MOVEMENT AND SUCCESS.

      Delete
    2. I see where you are sort of coming from, but to have world peace is a highly unlikely chance. One of the main reasons for issues is greed for land and money. So the only way to solve that is to get rid of money, but how would the world live without money though it would rid of greed.
The solutions to world peace is impossible.

    3. Shivani, I liked where you were going with this and your Martin Luther King Jr. reference. However, do you truly believe that world peace is obtainable? Think about the wars we face today. The political and religious differences people have. Maybe not instantaneously, but even gradually, will all of these conflicts, differences, and opinions be put aside? This is all dreams and desires, but no one is willing to sacrifice their opinions and views. There are always going to be those people who are not for peace or just not willing to let go of their arguments and opinions. Therefore, I disagree with your overall point of world peace being obtainable.

      Delete
    4. Shivani, I liked your post and the reasons you used to back up your argument, however, I have to disagree with you. Like Abu mentioned in his reply, your statement was slightly invalid because, not necessarily selfishness, but something similar, may cause people to lose competitiveness and there will be no success. Also, there are way too many negative contributors that affect the possibility of world peace. Religion, politics, power, money, etc, all play major parts in preventing it. Also, like Kushali mentioned, a great point I might add, do you really think that people will be willing enough to put aside their opinions and differences to obtain world peace? People hardly go 10 minutes without expressing their opinions on a matter. Also on the topic of opinions, and also as Kushali said, people may not even agree with the ideology of world peace. People will tend to have negative opinions on the matter itself. These are just the main points to consider when believing in world peace. You had good reasons, and I like how your post opinion was different than most of us, but the cons of world peace are definitely higher in this argument.

  9. World peace is truly not obtainable because of the factors of cultural diversity, different views on the world, extremists constantly causing out-of-hand conflicts, and religion. In order for world peace to exist utopian societies have to be greatly promoted and there would have to be one general type of government in which the people abide by. Another major factor to look at in each country is the amount of extremists, people who hold extreme political or religious views, because most of the time it is these radicals that promote war. It is highly unlikely that the whole world can establish peace and live the rest of eternity being silent. Whether there are small conflicts or huge conflicts war is war and we can do nothing to stop it. There are conflicts literally everyday around the world we are unaware of. With the advent of new technology and advancements, countries are going to grow more and more envious and demand these things. However, most of the time the countries end up constantly fighting. As my fellow peers have said, one major ongoing conflict is the Palestinian and Israeli one. Palestinian forces and Israel constantly fight over who has the right to the land and the fact that there are two different religions adds to this conflict. No matter how close we are to maintaining peace, there will always be radicals who get in the way. Obtaining world peace will simply a dream because everyone has different viewpoints on everything (not everyone from around will agree with each other).

  10. In my opinion, I believe that there cannot be peace in this world. The way we are designed; how we think and act cannot support peace. Us as human beings are not perfect meaning that there wont be an instance where certain people will just stop hating and start loving. So long as there is hate in the world there cant be peace, and even the happiest of people have something they hate. I do believe that is very optimistic and its a good thing if someone tries to make peace in the world but it just cant happen. The only way to achieve peace is if we eliminate all of the hatred, but some people are opinionated and don't want to forgive people. Hence, peace is a very optimistic dream to have but overall the reality of it is there will never really be peace.

    2. I like the way you said that we are not perfect. As long as there is people, there will be no peace exist. No matter how a couple love each other, there will be always an argument between them. Since even two people can't make peace all the time, how can there be a peace throughout the world? Good job Elijah~

  11. For me, peace is an abstract concept- so close and yet so far. Literally, peace is when there is no war or fighting. It sounds accessible but unrealistic. Everyday, I go to school, learning joyfully in a safe, warm, and caring environment. The only things I need to concern about is my grades, interpersonal relationship and future planning. But for a same-age teenager in countries like Palestine and Syria, they are probably screaming in a rattle of bullets and worried about if they can see tomorrow. Sometimes, I can't believe that me and these poor children are living under the same blue sky.
However, in reality, there is no one that can play the role of God, whose point of view is always "right" and all the people have to follow it. Since everyone has his/her own opinion, when a difference if opinion comes, the conflict also comes. Trace back to events before century like the Anabasis of Alexander; Queen Ann's war in early 18th century which lasted for 11 years between the English colonies and France; the famous WWI and WWII; 911 attack in 2001....Lots (but not all!!) of the wars and world conflicts all caused by people's desire, fight for faith and ambitions to rule the world. Why Hitler wanted to be the "God" who controls Europe or even the whole world? In my opinion, he wanted to let the world be the paradise of Aryans. However, let's suppose once he succeed, and controlled the whole world, will there be "peace" in the world? The answer is obviously no. There is a saying that goes," Peace is the time between two wars." I think the World Peace don't have the possibility to exist. Same like Utopia and Marxism, these are the ideal world we try to reach but will never exist since there is human desire, different opinions, and gap between people and people.

  12. I believe that world peace is unobtainable idea. I have come to this conclusion because differences in ideas and believes is what causes us to be human and these reasons cause us to get into arguments and conflicts with other people. World peace can only occur in utopias, which don't exist so world peace in our modern day is just a foreign unmanageable dream. One example of a difference that has caused numerous problems and wars is religion. Throughout history religion has been one of the major contributors to war between nations. One example of a conflict due to religion were the Crusades. It was a series of wars between muslims and christians to see who gets dominion of the country of israel that had religious significance to both sides. So differences like this are obstacles that prevent us from achieving world peace.

    1. Your points are very well supported. The crusades for example is a perfect example of a conflict which included various obstacles and issues that were faced. Trying to solve these problems made the nation grow as a whole. Also the Crusades still help us today since we learn from mistakes.

    2. Hey David, I disagree with your opinion however the evidence you provided for your point of view was well thought of. For example, when you compared world peace to Utopias (something unattainable) and the crusades (an important event in our history). However when you stated that differences are like obstacles that prevent world peace, you did not mention that they were unsurpassable meaning that world peace is attainable.I will admit that this task would be immeasurably difficult, yet not impossible.

  13. What is peace? It is a state of harmony characterized by the lack of VIOLENCE and CONFLICT. First, lets analyze violence. The Civil War was a conflict between the north and south. It enhanced the nation on the idea that America was a whole country and not just a collection of independent states. Another positive impact the civil war had was the end of slavery, which then led to new laws for protection to citizens. Anther analogy is a math “problem” There always needs to be a conflict for an end result and to get to that end result we have to face obstacles. Another conflict can be the Industrial Revolution, which resulted in huge productions in goods, economies boomed due to high populations, and cities started to become centralized on wealth. Due to this conflict a certain goal was set.
As Booker T. Washington states “Success is to be measured not so much by the position that one has reached in life as by the obstacles which he has overcome.” If we extend this saying and put it in terms of the world we can say that without conflicts and violence there would be no success. Each obstacle makes us stronger and takes us closer to our goal.
Furthermore if we look at history as a whole we look at all the mistakes we have made and what results we have received. This prevents us from making the same mistakes and actually learning from what we had done wrong. We learn most fro our mistakes. So, if we do have “world peace” where would we stand? There would be no success. Human existence has always been based n conflict, which drives evolution. With World Peace, we would be instantly wiped out, in other words War and such problems keep us alert and ready for what is to come forth. With world Peace we would not be able to defend ourselves’ we would not know how to face anything or even how to organize the world.

  14. World peace, a controversial topic that is desired throughout the world, but never seems to thrive. Why might this be? In the world that we live in, people have opinons, whether it be their own opinions or the opinions of their governments, they are everywhere and they do create controversy amongst world affairs. Different political views instigate arguments and even bigger situations such as wars. The United States has different political views than countries such as Iraq. In order to achieve complete world peace, we would have to unite the world's nations and obtain unified political views. This is a truly unrealistic goal that I cannot even imagine taking place in the world, it is just too good to be true. Furthermore, another point that might stand as an obstacle for the world to reach peace is different religious sects and beliefs. There is a variety of countless religions in the world. Some religions such as Christianity and Hinduism have many differences. With religious differences, conflicts arise easily. In order to gain world peace, religious differences and beliefs would have to be compromised. Even though obtaining world peace overall would be a great benefit to the world, in reality, 100% peace throughout the world is impossible.

  15. World Peace, is only a sweet dream. A dream, because it defies human nature. As humans, we have the intentions to prove our point right. However, these intentions get blown out of proportion. It can start as a small fight in a town, but escalate into half a nation, and possibly a whole country or continent! Power, we all want it. Who truly has power? Why do they have power? These are the questions that some world leaders ask... If they feel they are in a power-struggle, they will feel the need to rage-war upon a country with power. However, power isn't the only reason war is fought. War is also fought, because of differences in culture and/or religion. Who is to say one religion is better than another? Who is to say one culture is right against another? There is no answer to these questions, therefore world leaders start battles to prove who is right with "power". There will never be a time of world peace, because no country will ever be equal to another in power, or money. -TOM HINDLE

    1. I agree with you Thomas. All people do is want power, and I like how you said how big a simple disagreement can become. This is all true, you really hit the aspects stopping world peace. I didn't even think about people wanting power. Lastly, your last sentence is the perfect way to explain why world peace is impossible.

    2. Hey Thomas, I don't agree with your opinion but the reasoning behind your opinion was spot-on. I really liked how you compared world peace to a dream because this emphasized your point that it was unattainable. I do agree with your domino effect disagreement point however it is worth noting that steps can be taken to avoid or halt the domino effect, regardless of the situation. Lastly I'd like to point out that countries do not have to be equal to make peace.

  16. World peace, the one thing every person says they dream of, but in reality only some truly dream of it. World peace is the last thing on some peoples minds. The idea of world peace is truly unrealistic. No matter how broad or narrow a topic peoples opinions find a way to clash with others, so how would anyone be able to agree in order for us to have world peace. Not only that, but all the religions in the world have so many differences that some people argue constantly. How come terrorism is always assumed to be done by Muslims, and how come Jews are always referred to have big noses and be greedy? These stereotypes are tearing people apart, so how is world peace even possible. Also, I see everyone is talking about Isreal and Palestine, which is a good example of why world peace can't be obtained. But, most of them just think because its a huge war, and don't know what its really about. This fight between them goes back to 1922, and is still alive to this day because both sides think its their own land. So how do you know they will ever reach peace, let alone the entire world reach peace. Just another reason we won't reach world peace is all the genocide in Africa. Why don't people think about the genocide in Rwanda, or even about the fact that most of Africa's countries lack basic necessities. Another reason we will never reach world peace is countries attacking their own. For example, Syria is having all these issues and nothing looks like its getting better. These are only some problems in the world stopping world peace. Most people think they are justified in everything they do, so how is world peace possible? I know i'd like to see it, but there is no soution.

    1. Hava, one of the best posts I've read so far, to be honest. I absolutely agree with all points you mentioned. I wonder about stereotypes everyday. You're right, why must Muslims be labeled as "terrorists"due to actions of certain individuals? It is not about race, ethnicity, religion or appearance. It is about the person and their personality and maturity. If only people were able to understand this and look beyond these stereotypes. This is preventing our world from coming together, even though no matter how hard we try, we know that world peace cannot be guaranteed 100%. Great job. This really got me thinking.
