The Boulder....

As we begin our study of the Exploration Period in class this week, I thought it would be interesting to discuss what you believe would be a "Boulder Event" that would have a dramatic change on the Earth, dramatically effecting humankind, much like events that took place during Renaissance, the Scientific Revolution and the Exploration Period.

Due in large to the Scientific Revolution, the Exploration Period was able to take place due to the advancements in technology - the development of the compass, the sextant, the astrolabe, and a number of key advancements.  With these major advancements in tools of navigation, people began to expand outward and to explore the world, which had positive and negative results.

So, with that theme in mind.....

This Week's Topic Question is:

What "invention" would revolutionize the world today and create a major "Boulder Event" that would have not only an immediate effect, but would also have a major impact on humankind years beyond?

76 comments:

  1. There are numerous inventions that would help mankind prominently in the modern day and many, many years to come. One of the current issues that millions of people around the world are experiencing and battling is cancer. Cancer is a disease that is nearly impossible to cure at the moment and a very painful, stressful, and tough experience that so many people go through. Scientists, doctors, and researchers all over the world are trying their hardest each and every day to find some way to cure this disease. An invention that could treat cancer would be life-saving for people everywhere. The discovery or making of this invention would absolutely have a boulder effect on the entire world, and for future generations. Back when chicken pox and other diseases were starting to spread, there was no cure for it, and we pity those people today. Hundreds of years from now, cancer treatment may be normal for people and they may look back at us and feel sorry. People wouldn't have to fear cancer as much as they do today, and do as much as possible to prevent themselves from being infected as well. Cancer has a huge impact on people’s lives, health, family, friends, and even the population of this planet. It has been proven that on an average, about 7.5-7.6 million people die from cancer every single year. If there was an invention that could cure cancer, doctors all over the world can save numerous lives and keep everyone healthy. The invention of a cure for cancer would definitely have a boulder effect and an immediate impact on the humankind today and even in the future.

    1. I agree when you stated "...and we pity those people today." It's true, when we look back in time and see how hard life was. Possibly 200 years from now, they will pity us the same we we pitied those in the 1400's. As for the instantaneous part... Would the cure be expensive for the average citizen? -TOM HINDLE

    2. Anshul... just wanted to ask you if you believed that if a cure for cancer was found (a great thing, for sure), do you believe that this "great discovery" would have a negative effect? What do you believe it would do for the tobacco companies? Currently they are "looked down upon" for producing and selling a product that is so harmful to people's health - would a cure for cancer end up giving these companies an excuse to increase their production and profits? Just food for thought......

    3. Anshul, I agree with your statement. Cancer has been around for so long, and the fact that people have to struggle to survive against this disease makes it even worse. Finding a cure for this disease would have such a huge effect on mankind (hence the term "boulder effect"). By the way, I like how you included some statistics on how many people die from cancer each year. However, the only problem with finding a cure for cancer is that the population would surely increase by quite a lot...but other than that, great job on your post.

    4. In terms of how the cure for cancer is going to be a boulder effect, I would like to agree with you. As you have stated, "...about 7.5-7.6 million people die from cancer every single year," finding such a cure would dramatically effect the medical field. If cancer were to be cured, think about all the scientific breakthroughs and methods that would develop. The entire field of science would change shape and create a lasting effect in society for years to come. The lives of many humans suffering from cancer would in turn, change for the better. However, population increase and cost would be two factors that would go into this development.

    5. Although finding a solution to cancer will be phenomenal it would probably be really expensive and unaffordable for most of the people. I really don't mean this in a bad way, but don't t you think that the solution to cancer will cause overpopulation. I'm not saying that it is okay for people to die, but some things need to stay the way they are like the food cycle. Although we don't like insects they help regulate our Earth, just like cancer. AGAIN, I'm not saying people should die, I'm just saying it might have a negative affect, as well as a positive.

      Delete
    6. Finding a cure for cancer would be amazing! Its so heartbreaking that as many as 7 million people die every year from this vicious disease. Even though our population will grow, I think it would be better to save lives because every life is important.

      Delete
    7. I agree Anshul because I've heard many of the horror stories involving varying types of cancer. Though they usually involve children who just want to live their lives, cancer hurts more than just kids. To save those innocent lives would be more than a breakthrough, it would be a miracle. By curing cancer you'd most certainly impact the future because (for example) you'd be able to focus on curing other fatal diseases or even injuries.

  2. Humans have developed new technologies to adapt to their enviornment(s) for many years. Whether it has benefited them for medical reasons, conviences, or social status, technology is their to help us improve our lifestyles. One xample, is Henry Ford. Henry Ford, was the man who created the very first car. We still use cars today, therefore his invention was very helpful, and beneficial. If there were to be a "new technology", the most needed thing in society right now, is a cure for ALL diseases. This would impact our society greatly, because there would be less sicknesses, and deaths. Also, it would be a revolutionary movement for doctors. However, population contral would most likely get out of hand, and the world would not be able to supply and demand the people. -TOM HINDLE

    1. Tom, I agree with you that finding a cure for all diseases would DEFINITELY have an extreme impact on mankind. I also liked that you mentioned how the population would increase...and it would. In fact, it would increase dramatically. So, finding a cure for all diseases may solve one problem, but it is potentially creating another.

      Delete
    2. I'd like to agree with Paige on this one. The cure for all diseases would cause an increase in population, but dramatically decrease the food supply. It would be working in the opposite direction. Lets take a look at how the potato had an effect on society throughout certain periods of time. When dependency on potatoes as the main crop was prevalent, the population increased so much that the amount of food available wouldn't be equal to the population, thus creating more people to starve. This is the same way as the cure for all diseases. A sudden increase in population would effect how much food there is to sustain life. Maybe, the cure for ALL diseases is a stretch and we have to start looking at new ideas instead.

      Delete
    3. This is almost exactly what I think about nader's. It is a great idea as of now. But as the years go by, the population will accumulate until the earth is so crowded, it would be impossible to live on. I had this idea too, until Rob brought the population up to me.

      Delete
    4. Excellent post! I liked how you mentioned the fact that the population would grow out of control if this were to occur. Certainly, the advancement of finding a cure to all diseases is a pro, but it can proliferate the population greatly and there is not enough non-renewable resources and land for people to live on to begin with. If there were to be an enormous population growth, who knows what would happen?

      Delete
    5. I mean this with no disrespect, but I disagree with you greatly. Like what I commented on Nader's post, population growth can end the world as we know it, and in a flash. You only took into perspective our feelings and just the thought of having less sicknesses, and deaths, but what is that going to do? This will not help the world environmentally or financially as we use up more resources and waste more and more non-renewable resources like oil. Also, this generation clearly does not know how to recycle or reuse at a good pace, we don't do it enough. Again, I mean this in the greatest respect to humankind, but I see this doing no good for us.

      Delete
    6. Additionally, you actually stated how population growth is a factor, but did not explain how curing all diseases outweighs the growth of population, so you basically contradicted yourself.

      Delete
    7. Thomas, I agreed that the invention of a cure for all diseases without a doubt would have a huge impact. I really liked how you included an example of an invention of the past that escalated immediately and still today plays a MAJOR role. My only concern about your post was what invention specifically could carry out this method of cure? In addition, I'd like to add what I posted about, the Nano-medicine. This, for example, is something that has the possibility to cure many diseases and more.

      Delete
    8. To Robert, thank you. It is true, I did contradict myself. I should have taken a single point of view. Well, I agree with your reasons as well. Healing is beneficial to NOW, but will it affect the future with something we could place in history books? -TOM HINDLE

      Delete
    9. Well, I pretty like the idea and it sounds so exhilarating. However I don't quite believe that there will be a cure for all diseases. There will always be
new diseases. There is no absolute thing so I don't think there will be a cure with no negative effect. So, I don't quite agree with Rob. Maybe people can live longer and increase the population but you can never tell what will happen next. In the future, people may create good ways to solve population growth.

  3. In this day and age where technology is very important in our lives, it's urgent that we come up with something that can benefit us for years. Some people might say that we live in "The Technology Era" but, we really need a standout, something that can really change peoples lives for the good. Like Lord Gehms ripple theory, this shouldn't be a grain of sand it should be a boulder. My idea of a technology that would be very efficient is an alternate energy source, specifically for cars. Gas is very expensive and there's not much time until we run out. Scientist should start thinking of a mechanism that can power a big machine without all of the pollution, and something that is easy and cheap to install. This will then have a snowball effect, since there won't be any more pollution there will be less diseases cause by it. People could stay healthier and it can prevent global warming by not destroying out O-Zone layer. This is my idea of a technology that can change the earth in a very positive way.

    1. That's a great idea, but the only problem I find would be the efficiency. How WELL would it work? So far, gasoline has been proven to be the best option for running cars. It might be hard to compete with that. -TOM HINDLE

    2. First, I'm going to comment on Elijah's comment then Mr. Frosty :-)
Elijah, I loved your idea and I do agree with your invention as being a HUGE boulder effect. With all "boulder events" the discovery of an efficient alternative energy source would have an immediate effect (the "splash" effect from the boulder landing in the water) and without a doubt it would have a long term effect (the actual "ripples") - both negatively and positively. One of the immediate effects is that it would demand new car and truck (commercial trucks) designs and not to mention all devices that run on traditional fuel sources (gasoline and oil-based energy sources). It would also have a negative effect, for this new energy sources would have an impact on the large refiners that exist in this country that convert oil into gasoline, displacing a large number of workers (not to mention the number gas attendants at local gas stations).

Mr. Frosty, I think you are missing the key point of this week's topic question. If the invention is made, we are assuming that it would work, just as you assumed that the cure of ALL diseases could be found. Trust me, if an major alternative energy source were discovered and could be feasibly developed and distributed, gasoline wouldn't stand a chance!!

      Delete
    3. I actually wrote something very similar to your statement. But, good job Elijah. It is clear that alternative energy sources would be such a big boulder effect. Also, I liked the points that you brought up. Incorporating people's health into your statement was actually a great point to bring up. Great job.

      Delete
    4. Good post Elijah! I just agree with Tom though. If we stop making cars that run on gas, and just make battery operated cars, what if they don't work? What if we have a blackout, like during Hurricane Sandy, and need to use a car?
But I do agree with you. It would be a massive boulder effect!

      Delete
    5. I like your idea about finding a cleaner source of energy. I think you idea and my idea would go hand in hand. Since my idea is an immediate reaction, your idea would help maintain the wholeness of our ozone layer. But, scientists are already looking for ways to make power sources without all the pollution, I think you should've been a bit more specific as to what will the source be possibly made out of. Good job.

    6. This is an excellent point. Finding an alternative for the terrible fossil fuels being released into the atmosphere would be a breakthrough for the world and certainly leave a ginormous ripple throughout the years. This can be such an efficient invention, considering the fact that our environment would benefit greatly from this invention. A renewable resource would be a phenomenal idea for this new source of power.

      Delete
    7. Elijah, I would have to say that I really agree with your post. I like how you kind of thought out of the box a little and went for the environment instead of technology and other things. I totally agree that gasoline is a very harmful and expensive material to run cars. I also like how you stated how not using a harmful material to run vehicles could help the environment from pollution and the world from global warming. I feel as though you could have elaborated a bit more, but overall you did great!

    8. Elijah, surprisingly this relates almost entirely to my thought. However, you did word it differently. I also included that the area we get our oil from, the Middle East, is not too friendly with us and can turn at us at any moment, and then we have no more oil. You said we should have an alternate energy source, while I stated we should have a new method of mass transportation. I think when you put those two ideas together, they can't be beat. We definitely have to put more work into our ideas and truly look more into it.

    9. I very much agreed to your article to an alternate energy source as an invention that could have a major impact on humanity. Your points were very valid and straight to the point that generalized your topic greatly. Gas is a very controversial topic today in the world with many negativities and this invention would uplift the solution to the problem. It also has a domino effect in many other positive outcomes.

    10. I really like this post because an alternate energy source would have a major impact on society. It would also help eliminate polluting our environment and keep the Earth clean and green. Gas is a necessity we use and finding an energy source better than gas will help our society prosper.

  6. - To Elijah- I will amend my statement. If this invention were to work, how would it effect the economy? The Middle East would lose tons of money, because no one would want to purchase oil anymore. Also, what if another country other than the U.S.A. were to create it? Would we, and the rest of the world, rely on them? -TOM HINDLE

  7. Well Thomas, I believe this technology doesn't necessarily need to go to the Middle East. Not trying to say that we aren't going to give it to the Middle East, but if they have all of the oil, they can use it for their own cars and trucks and make money from the people because everyone with this new technology won't need oil. Or we can find a place to put and preserve the oil do it doesn't go to waste, but at the same time doesn't harm the environment.

  9. Throughout history, people have revolutionized the world- from finding cures to diseases to making new inventions, these events have had such big affects on our lives. Of course, finding other ways to revolutionize the world would definitely have a "boulder effect" on mankind, and I know one way to do so.
As we all know, most cars and appliances (such as a generator) run on gas made from fossil fuels. Not only are fossil fuels a nonrenewable resource, they are also harmful to the environment. Burning these fuels releases many pollutants in to the air, such as carbon dioxide, and even radioactive materials, like uranium and thorium; all very bad for the environment. Plus, being that it is a nonrenewable resource (as I mentioned before) and we are using more and more of it each day, it's easy to tell that we will soon run out of it, and now is the time to fix that. The solution- a new type of fuel for cars and appliances that is both environmentally friendly and made from renewable resources. An invention like this would absolutely have an immediate and lasting effect on mankind...Talk about a "Boulder Effect".

    1. I strongly agree with you that a new energy source would help the world become environmentally friendly and open the way for a more efficient type of car. However, wouldn't the price of an alternative fuel as you mentioned, proliferate because of surplus and demand. Demand would be too high for this invention to actually work and most people wouldn't have enough money to spend such an alternative source. We have to look at both sides of the spectrum and realize that the introduction of new energy sources would cause a slightly negative effect on society. Take, hydro-cars for example; they are environmentally efficient, but the price for their fuel is absurd. Wouldn't you think that a new type of fuel would negatively effect the economy because of their prices?

      Delete
    2. Nader I agree with your point of affecting the economy. What if another country were to create an alternative? We would have to pay them for trade, and they would prosper over us. -TOM HINDLE

      Delete
    3. Paige, I strongly agree with your entry! You had a similar post to Elijah's, but I definitely have to say that you backed up your argument with some great reasons and facts! I liked how you talked about nonrenewable resources, fossil fuels, and the different things our air gets contaminated by. I strongly agree that finding a new resource instead of using fossil fuels and gasoline would have a boulder affect on humankind. You did great!

      Delete
    4. Paige, I understand where you are coming from. Pollution of the fossil fuels we use are having a negative effect on the world. But, finding those resources for a better source of energy would be tough. We would actually waste more energy trying to find better things, than the amount of energy we would get out of them. So, I see where you are coming from but it would be hard.

      Delete
    5. I agree with your opinion, this invention would be beneficial for an array of reasons. One being, it is economically acceptable, and two being environmental friendly. The reason this would have a "boulder-effect" on society is the reasoning of our future. Not only does it help "today", but also our future generations.

  10. Whether it is from robot maids to cures for cancer, the most significant invention that would revolutionize the world today would be nano-medicine. Nanotechnology in medicine is an efficient method of treating certain diseases. It can destroy the diseased cells while keeping the healthy cells the same. Nano-medicine would pave way to the cure for many diseases including cancer. This invention would have a boulder impact in humanity because it would also introduce new biological and medical research, while still saving the lives of many humans that suffer with diseases. The invention of nano-medicine would have a ripple effect in series of ways. If nano-medicine were to be introduced and cure many certain diseases, then the economy would prosper. Nano-medicine is a large industry that would revolutionize medicine in a series of ways. We know that concept of nanotechnology in medicine is safe for the most part, but what we don't know is its availability. However, what we need in society is the advent of new technology in the fields of medicine. To be considered the "Technology" era, we need to delve deeper into every aspect of human life. So why not start at a new medicine that could lead the way to a prosperous economy, the cure for cancer, and have a long-lasting effect on humanity's growth?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I like very much your idea about nano-medicine. This could seriously people who are in dier need of a cure for their respective disease. But on the other hand, me and Rob were talking about this before, our world has a serious population problem as it is and if nano science were to be used for cures, many people would live much longer than meant to be, thus causing a huge population increase, which this world doesn't need. And as the years go on, the world's pop. will grow and grow until there are serious problems. (credits to Rob on bring up the population problem earlier.)

      Delete
    2. This is a very good idea. If we can solve the problem of severe disease, it will save many peoples' lives. Scientists should start thinking of a way to create these nano-medicine particles. The medicine will also help the US's economy because other people would want to have the cure that we have. We can make money from this and save lives. Scientists need to think of a way to create nano-medicine.

      Delete
    3. I like that you looked at it from a scientific point of view. Nano-medicine would save many lives that are at stake, however, their is a dilemma that the government, if available, would take into consideration. This dilemma is population control. The government, and even many doctors would see population growth as a bigger problem than the spread of rare diseases. The population is sky-rocketing up, causing our society to be in disbelief. If we cure many diseases, imagine how much more the population will speed up. We must think thoroughly before we act as a species. The human species is very powerful, and these diseases help to sustain our population. Think about it, we are at the top of the food chain, how often do you hear of people getting eaten by a shark or getting struck by lightning. This would cause even bigger problems for our species and before acting, take other ideas into consideration. By the way, I am in NO way wishing death upon many people with these harmful, saddening and tragic diseases that are very unfortunate. But before looking at our feelings and uncommon diseases, look towards the future. If we cure multiple diseases using nano-medicine, it is definitely a possibility that the world can come to a close before we can say "hooray for nano-medicine."

      Delete
    4. I also chose Nano-medicine as an invention that would impact humanity majorly. It has an effect to not only one positive result but many that would remove life problems. I really like the way you elaborated on the different points that support why Nano-medicine would be an efficient source. The rhetorical question you included at the end really summed up your post.

      Delete
    5. Nader, this is a very good perspective that you have on this weeks topic. I never really knew what Nano medicine is until this post. I agree with you, there should be a cure for diseases and if this is possible, that would be great but I have to agree with Ian and Rob with this one. We have an immense population and diseases sort of control that. Not wishing death upon anyone, but we have to consider other factors before getting into medicine. Overall it was a very good blog

      Delete
    6. I really like this idea of Nano-medicine because it will greatly help the field of medicine and science. Curing diseases will help our society and as you said nanotechnology is a great industry to profit off. I think nano-medicine has many benefits and will definitely help humanity in a positive way

    7. Hey Nader, I have to say that nano byte technology would indeed be revolutionary. It would definitely do a lot of good, especially if the technology was perfected and used more extensively. However, though I agree I must admit that this could pose a threat to our immune system because it could replace it entirely. Though the nano bytes could do a better job, if they malfunctioned the results could be catastrophic. However, I am not discouraging this invention because if the proper research and experimentation is properly executed, then a future with nano bytes could be quite promising.

      Delete
    8. Nader I must say I am very impressed with you research about Nanotechnology. I find your argument to be very valid and I support it fully. The invention of Nanotechnology for medical purpose would surely affect this age and future ones to come in a very big way. It would be able to cure diseases such as AIDS and Cancer that were once thought to be incurable. I congratulate you on a job well done.

  11. As of now we have a big problem with global climate change, which is mostly due to the hole(s) in our ozone layer. If this problem is not fixed, this could really change what the Earth's future looks like. So, with that being said, my idea for an invention that will not only help us now, but for a while down the road, is a way to harness the ozone that makes up our ozone layer. I'm not quite sure if you can actually do that, but it would certainly help with our cause. Our ozone layer is made of UV rays from the sun and ozone which is 3O. Ozone can be created by using high voltage equipment like, laser printers, tasers, and arc welders. Now my idea would be a way to harness the ozone produced from these tools and eventually patch up the holes in our ozone layer. I know what you are thinking, this isn't really an invention, and I know, but it is an idea for an invention that I don't really know the parts for. This invention/idea would be a boulder on the ripple affect scale because it would basically fix the biggest problem in the world today. If this invention were to be made, we would basically have a solution to global climate change until the end of time itself. If we could patch the ozone layer with ozone we capture from different electrical equipment it could change the world as we know it. Only if it could be done

    2. This is almost exactly the same concept as my idea and I completely agree with you. The ozone layer is very important since it is guarding us from the suns violent rays. If we can find a solution to the ozone layer problem it will have an extreme influence on society. This is going with my idea because if we can save our ozone layer we will continuously need to keep harmful gases out of the air, the idea of my invention. Many people are talking about diseases, but what diseases will there be with no life?

    4. The Foxinator! I agree with your blog, trying to help the O-Zone layer is a very big thing. It ties into my blog about an alternate fuel sources and it definitely would have a boulder effect. The O-Zone layer is really a big topic that people over look and if we could have a technology that some how captures the O-Zone layer that sure would help. Good blog Ian.

    5. Ian I loved that you thought of something so different and unique, even though it wasn't an invention. I would have never thought of that! Like Robert stated, you saw this through a scientific point of view and came up with a unique idea for an invention! The holes in our ozone layer are basically what effect global warming and cause greenhouse gases to enter our atmosphere. If we patched these holes, we wouldn't have to worry about such things and global climate would change. I think you did a good job, however, I think you needed a few more reasons and explanations to make your argument a little stronger.

  12. One invention that would help us today and in the future would be a cure for diseases. Many diseases, such as cancer, take many lives each day. Many other diseases cripple people -young and old- and we need a cure for that immediately. Finding a cure for diseases, cancer especially, would cause the birth rate to rise and the death rate would fall. However, this can cause negatives as well. We would need fasterand more efficient food production that would be able to swiftly feed the hungry mouths around the world. We would need bigger schools - which would cost a heafty amount of money - to fit all the children. This would affect our economy tremdously.
In my opinion, I believe that finding a cure for diseases, despite the few amount of downfalls, would be a great benefit for mankind - not only today, but for years to come!

    1. Hi Kaitlyn. I agree with how you stated that a cure for diseases is needed. The death toll from diseases is great and if we can advance enough to find a cure, that would be great. It also interesting to see how though you are supporting this topic you found the bad in the idea of cure. It didn't hit me that the world would become more crowded. I enjoy how you wrote this piece.

  13. Inventions have affected our society throughout our whole lives; one invention that has not yet been made that can influence our world is a global purifier. This purifier, like a filter, would be put in every state and would be able to suck in all of the hazardous gases. The scientist should work to have the purifier work under solar power. Hazardous gases are causing our society to be polluted and temperatures to rise. If temperatures continue to rise due to global warming and the greenhouse effect, our ocean levels will rise, leading to mass flooding. Scientists quickly need to think of a way to rid of gases that are causing us to ruin our environment. This will affect other countries and convince them to also try out the technology. The invention of a global purifier will also help to stop the depletion of the ozone layer and will support the Earth. We need to solve this problem our past ancestors have left for us before it ends up finishing our race. Scientists and engineers, lets get to it.

  14. New inventions and discoveries affect the world greatly. An invention that has not been established and can create a ginormous boulder affect, as well as an immediate affect is a new source of energy that can be efficient to the environment and work as fast as the electricity we use as energy today. I am aware of the fact that there are other sources of energy that are beneficial to the environment, like solar energy. This, however, can be very costly at first. Also, areas that do not get plenty of sunshine would not benefit from solar energy use. An invention of an eco-friendly source of energy that works just as well as electrical energy would create a worldwide boulder effect. If this were to be discovered, more and more people would surely begin to use this advancement. Eventually, the new source of energy that is just as good as electrical energy, but better for the environment would be used throughout the world. This can reduce electricity bills and result in a more efficient and healthier environment. An invention like this would surely cause an immediate impact on the world and a boulder event lasting throught the years to come.

  15. The invention that would revolutionize our world today and humankind in years to come is a new method of mass transportation. This was a clear answer to this question looking at it from an environmental, social, and financial point of view not only looking at the U.S., but the whole world. A better way of transporting a large amount of people ranging from the hundreds to thousands would be beneficial to our environment in a great way. Between all of the various vehicles, planes, and trains, they all emit harmful gases like carbon monoxide that contributes to the degradation of our world and it's environment as we know it. These gases leak into the air all around the world and get into our o-zone layer, which in turn, contributes to the topic we like to call global warming. Making new method(s) help reduce the amount of toxic gases diffusing through our atmosphere and can gradually save the world. The U.S. spends tons of money on oil coming from the Middle East and lessening our oil intake helps our country in a huge way from a financial standpoint. The fact that the U.S.'s government has been shut down due to the large debt we face, it is crucial that we take a stand as a country and act as conservatives. Also, if we don't have to depend so much on the Middle East for non-renewable resources, it helps us in staying stable and having a better independence. We do not have a good history with the Middle East, so any minute they can turn on us and, BOOM... we're out of oil.

    1. Great post Rob! I definately agree with you. I like how you mentioned our history with the Middle East. We rely on them heavily for our oil and without them, we'd have none. Mass transportation would help our whole world! Good job!

  16. The invention that would revolutionize the world today and create a major “boulder event” that would not only have an immediate effect but would also have a major impact on human kind years beyond would have to be Nano-Medicine. It holds the characteristics that share the ability to affect the world positively and reveal an easier method to life hacks. Nano-medicine stands in the scientific related category ranging from very different inventions such as Robot Slaves, Time Machines, and Flying Cars. As informed in scientific theories and hypotheses, nanotechnology in medicine is alleged to bring about advanced ways to treat certain diseases. The nanoparticles are built to enhancement of attraction to the disease cells. This method releases no harm to healthy cells which is usually the problem when treating patients of diseases today. Nanoparticles would also defeat viruses by carrying enzymes that avert the reproduction of the virus in the patients’ bloodstreams. In addition to the many beneficial performances from the Nano-medicine, it treats neurological disorders in the brain. This invention would only progress in advantageous terms and exist a great step for mankind.

  17. One invention that would create a major Boulder Event in our world is people living underwater or in space. Our world is greatly increasing in population and what will happen when we have room for no more humans on land. People can start to build cities underwater and in space, when technology allows us. Building civilization elsewhere, besides land will help the human population and will not crowd the Earth. However, humans need to start developing the technology to live in underwater or space. It would be a very rough transition if there were no technology available. The human population will keep proliferating through the years and living underwater or in space would not overpopulate Earth.

    1. This is an interesting point you bring up Akshay. We are becoming crowded on Earth, and theres not options about expanding, so I understand your point. But, you need to think about how hard and almost impossible it would be to do these things. Due to the fact that us humans can only breathe oxygen, wouldn't it be hard getting supplies of that under water and in space. Though you have a good idea, its rather a difficult one.

    2. Hey Akshay, I have to say that I completely agree with your opinion. This is because overpopulation is a constantly overlooked problem which constantly getting worse. With this solution, overpopulation will no longer be a threat to our way of living nor our existence. Of course we would have to adapt, but this is customary with any type of change.

    3. Akshay, I agree with you perspective. Living underwater or in space would surely have a very big impact on society. Actually just by living in another planet would effect our society immediately and it would also affect future ones to come. I also agree with your point that overpopulation will no longer be an issue. God job

    4. Haha you bring up a very interesting idea Akshay!^_^ I wonder how fabulous people's life will be when the technology can allow us to build cities underwater and in space. Nowadays overpopulation is really a hot potato. I think in the future, scientists and engineers will think out a good way to solve this problem and I also think your perspective will be a reference

  18. I think the technology invention which can improve fuel efficiency will be consider as "Boulder Event". According to the source by California Energy Commission as an example. On average, only 12.6 percent of the chemical energy you pump in can translates into motion. The rest goes to overcoming drag, inertia and other mechanical inefficiencies, with a whopping 62.4 percent consumed by engine friction, air pumps and waste heat. The potential to use advanced technologies to improve fuel efficiency is enormous. If the advanced technologies can be created and the technologies which was created can become popularization, I think we will a lot more energy in our daily life.

    1. I agree, it would conserve a bunch of energy if we created a potentially "better" invention vs. fuel. Not only that, but it would also benefit the health of the environment and life as we know it. I just hope it would be affordable!-TOM HINDLE

  19. Something that would "revolutionize" the world would definitely be something that has to do with medicine, that would help cure all things. Medical scientist have already made a name for this, and it is Panacea. This medicine would help extend the life of people, because this medicine would be a cure for all diseases. From a cure to cancer, viruses, aids, etc., this pill would help the world tremendously. Every year millions of people die to sickness, causing us to need this medicine more than ever. Thanks to that, scientist have been becoming closer to inventing it. Between with how advanced we are in medical science and how we can use the environments natural resources, just helps prove we can invent this medicine. If this is invented, the outcome would impact the world greatly. The "boulder effect", if this was invented, would be huge. The amount of lives that would be saved would help out people. Wouldn't it be amazing if there was a cure for every sickness in the world? The effect this would have on the future would be enormous too. Doctors would be able to save so many lives, and make people happy. Everyday scientist keep trying to improve on things, so if this were invented sometime soon, imagine how perfect this Panacea pill would be say 50 years from now. Though there are many things that need to be invented, a cure for all sicknesses should be the top invention people are working on.

  21. Throughout history we've had many revolutionary inventions that have changed not only how we act, but how we think (Ex: wifi, internet, and smartphone). However, one particular invention that would well impact the world today and create a major boulder event would be a machine that could influence weather patterns. Time and time again, we hear about how droughts, floods, and other devastating natural occurrences adversely effect people and their respective properties. By building a machine that could change these devastations of nature, we would subsequently save lives that would otherwise be reposed. Though there would be arguments over control of the invention, we could find a way to regulate the usage of it (possibly involving international law). This would also most certainly affect the future by influencing population growth, economies, and how the world would see agriculture in a new light (including it's new controllable weather factor).

  22. WOW! I actually did research on this and found out some interesting facts! "HAARP (High Frequency Active Auroral Research Program) is a little-known, yet critically important U.S. military defense project which has generated quite a bit of controversy over its alleged weather control capabilities and much more." You can find out more if you visit this website.http://www.wanttoknow.info/war/haarp_weather_modification_electromagnetic_warfare_weapons -TOM HINDLE

    1. Sai he point you arose was very significant. With the invention of a machine that could influence weather patterns we can prevent numerous natural disasters and save millions of people. Also we can accommodate the weather needed to grow crops so there will be more abundant and will grow to be bigger. This invention would surely cause a "Boulder Effect" good job

  23. There are numerous different inventions that could affect modern society in a big way one for example would be the invention of a mathematical equation that could explain our existence. To branch this out even further it would also explain the creation of the universe. We would be able to use this equation to find anything we want. I believe this would cause a major "Boulder Effect" because we would be able to explain why everything does what it does and how human came to be and why. this information is very valuable and scientist such as Steven Hawking and Albert Einstein attempted to try and come up with one, but failed. However if this equation were to exist you would surely revolutionize our world today with an immediate effect and the future as well.
